You know when you see a film or work of art that changes the way you see life? Well, this past weekend I saw the film about Ruth Ellis, "Living in Pride" at the Toronto InsideOut Lesbian and Gay Film Festival.
I am a 32 year old Canadian gay white male, and in the midst of pondering what it means to mature as a gay man. Listening to the words of Ruth Ellis, and looking at how she has continued to grow and develop as a person right into her 10th decade, is one of the most inspiring stories I've ever seen. I believe that many people today do not value our elders and there is so much we can learn from them! We -as gay people - must begin to find our elders - and to support and love them. What can I do to start this process? (as far as I know, in Canada, there is no way to find elder gay and lesbian people!) Their present is our future... we need to set up the organizations and systems today! What can I do?
